Mayor Praises Top Clinic Staff

Wakefield Express - 11th October 2012

THIRTY hair and beauty business across the region have been recognised for their top approach to health and safety.

Salon staff were presented with their Hair and Beauty Industry Awards (HABIA) during a special ceremony at the Town Hall on Monday.

The nationally recognised standards are held in conjunction with Wakefield Council and were awarded by Mayor Coun Ros Lund.

She said:

It is an honour to be presenting these local businesses with these awards, they deserve recognition of all the hard work they have put in to meet the high standards of health and safety needed to achieve the award.

It is great to see owners and staff taking pride in their business and I hope more salons across the district will strive to achieve these awards.

– Mayor Coun Ros Lund

The awards raise awareness and standards of health and safety with hair and beauty salons.

Only staff who meet the highest criteria are presented with the award, which they can hold for one year.

They then have to re-apply, to ensure standards are maintained.

They have to fullfil certain criteria, set out in the 18 point plan covering health and safety issues.

Coun Moureen Cummings, responsible for environments and communities, said:

These awards are a great initiative to tackle risks in the hair and beauty industry and to raise health and safety standards in this area.

It is great that our environmental health team is encouraging and supporting salons to meet the required standards to quality for this award and I congratulate all the winners for their hard work.
